Universal Kiss is Benedikt Schiefer‘s debut solo album written during the first lockdown in March 2020 and recorded in Berlin. It has become a journey through his musical languages that he has continuously developed and refined over the last years. He has a passion for melody and harmonic progressions that are organized in sequences. His goal is to seduce you with a playful sense of metamorphosis, seeking a contemplative magical journey towards embracing the universe.

Universal Kiss - Shelter
A sense of imaginary theatre, a breeze of opera that induces manifold scenes. A glimpse at the stars at night, a questioning call into the shimmering darkness. A hollow and profound interlude. Variations on relentlessly spinning harmonic cycles. The melodies’ literally excessive interpretations might be an expression of all-consuming passion, touching, coexisting and supporting each other, reaching concerto grosso-style like from solo violin, duo, trio to quartet. “Shelter might be my musical shelter but it is in the drama that we all seek shelter.”

Sturm und Drang
A floating textural cloud that incorporates the color of a romantic piano, alternating between texture and rhythm. Exploring the idea of 'man against machine' as a heroic act of struggle (David vs Goliath). The romantic style of this piano-playing becomes an artefact through transforming into something new inside the machine. It becomes a drone and dissolves into a cloud of sound only to show the details and inside of the same cloud later on.

Chapeau Feldman - The Green Dark
Rhythmical stringent structures that might remind one of a twisting spiral created by an algorithm. 'De profundis', a grimace staring and mocking us from a deep bottomless hole. A feeling of irresistible endless progression questioning musical existence. Like horror, but also as a catharsis.

Uncertainty No.3 - Gestalt No.4
A tender, embracing imaginary landscape giving space to roam ones emotional memory. Atmospheric stream-like music, inspired by meditation techniques, using the breath and sudden glimpses as its pace. “A musical body or intelligence that dances, sings and speaks to me. Contemplating myself listening to the material or 'gestalt' and wanting to listen very closely.”

Hunting for the birdsong of nightingales with a cat named Caramel in the woods of France during the first lockdown in 2020.
